New Beginnings

(pink catafore dress - old season Lazy Oaf, lilac ruffle top - H&M)

Well hey there, friend. So it's been a while since I've spoken to you all, hasn't it? I've had a pretty crazy six months to be honest with you, therefore I haven't had much time to sit down and write. However I've missed my little corner of the internet and now that I'm managing my time a bit better, I'm able to take more outfit photos and do more fun things that I can then share with you lovely lot - some of which I will be sharing today as I've had an amazing couple of weeks. So the question is where to begin?

I'll begin with this outfit. The theme of this post is "new beginnings" after all, and what better way to encompass that idea by giving an older piece of clothing a new lease of life by updating it and pairing it with something fresh and new. If you're following me on my Instagram (where I post frequent pictures of my daily outfits) you will most definitely be familiar with this dress from Lazy Oaf as I pretty much have been living in it since I bought it last April. It's cute, pink and has a cat - my favourite animal - on it; how could I not pull this out of my wardrobe at least once a week? It's kind of an obsession. However lately I've decided to see how I can style it in a slightly more unexpected way than how I've been wearing it for these 12 months - it's fairly easy when you find an outfit combination that you love to stick with that and not branch out because you know that it's a fail safe. But fashion should be about experimentation and trying new things, so this particular day I switched out my tried and tested white top with a high neck lilac one and I'm in love. You guys know I love pastels and the combination of the soft yet bright baby pink with the lilac is so fun and eye catching and perfect for Spring. So what are you waiting for? See if you can breathe new life into one of your go-to outfits by swapping in a new colour or print or accessory.

Personally, my new beginnings have stretched way beyond just outfits. Just over a year after leaving my Journalism university course, I bit the bullet and decided to follow one of my biggest dreams by applying and then enrolling into the London College Of Style's Fashion And Personal Styling Foundation course. I have always known deep inside me that fashion is the industry that I need to work in but have been too nervous to take that first step to get into it. But it was finally the right time for me and I am loving every moment of my course, less than a month in. We've done so many amazing things already - from meeting top of their game social media stars and stylists alike to day trips to vintage stores and my favourite museum (we even visited the studio of a designer who has worked with my idol Lady Gaga - a true pinch-me moment) to hosting our own personal styling session in Westfield shopping centre. I finally feel that I'm doing the right course for me and that I'm where I'm meant to be and it's the most rewarding feeling. If you guys are interested, I'll continue to update you on all the fun things that we do over the next few months as I feel like the best is still to come! I've added a few photos I've taken over the past few weeks of some of the places I've been and things I've seen...

As for the new beginnings of British Mermaid? Well, I'm going to aim to post once or twice a week so I can manage to check in with you guys alongside all the other things I'm currently doing. I also want to expand beyond the realm of just fashion and personal style as I have so many interests and blog post ideas that I want to share with you all - from advice on going vegan, to tips for visiting the Disney parks (and cute outfit ideas!) to my favourite places to go and things to see in London. I feel so energised, excited and ready to get writing again and I really hope you guys will enjoy the content I'm planning. I promise I won't leave you for so long again. <3
