A Pom Nose Dress (And Finding Who I Am Through Fashion)

01:29

pom nose glitter dress - Lazy Oaf
white Stellar boots - Melissa
unicorn backpack - Skinnydip London

I think I've finally reached a point in my life where I'm actually really content with who I am as a person, and I feel like I really know myself through and through. I've always kind of struggled with the idea of my personal identity and due to a horrible period lately of mental health issues relapsing, these thoughts and questions have been playing on my mind a lot again. However I think I'm beginning to see again what makes Cara Cara and embrace all of that, whether other people like it or not. Personal style especially is a huge part of self identity for me and I think this year I've learnt more than any before to just wear what makes me feel amazing and not really give a crap. I've realised that wearing all black puts me in a bad mood and that I feel odd in a "chic" bodycon dress paired with high heeled sandals. I've found that my happy place is the colourful and the sparkly and the kitsch; rainbow striped jumpers, clunky white boots and pink pinafores with cat faces on. Younger me would have been afraid to wear a crazy faux fur pastel coat or go out with a bag shaped like a rainbow but now I feel the happiest I could be when I walk outside wearing those pieces. I think there's such a beauty in knowing and having the courage to be your true and authentic self and I'm so happy that I've finally reached that for myself.

My advice to anyone who's still trying to figure themselves and their personal style out? Experiment. You'll never know how you'll feel wearing that certain item of clothing that you love until you try it on and chances are you'll feel right at home in it. Don't try and force yourself to like something just because it's seen as "cool" or "on trend". I still love watching fashion shows and checking up on trend reports in the magazines but I've found it way more beneficial to think of personal style first and trends second. Many seasons there are no trends that I love so I won't buy anything relating to them just because it's the cool fashion thing of the moment. And if you do like a trend? Don't feel like you have to copy the exact way you've seen it styled by everyone. I've actually written a full post on confidence and wearing what you want so if you want more on that, head on over here.

Onto this outfit though; Lazy Oaf are definitely one of the brands that create pieces that I feel the most "myself" in. As I touched on early, I love unique and individualistic clothing that put a smile on people's faces and Lazy Oaf are masters at that - this dress being a perfect example. I mean who can resist glitter and a cute embroidered face, complete with a pom-pom nose? Not this girl. It's also the most perfect shade of mauve-pink, which looks adorable paired with white chunky boots and a sassy bag, Baby Spice style, for making the most of the last warm days we're having in England.

  3. I LOVE your style for so many reasons! It's super cute, of course, but why I love it the most is because YOU love it! You look so beautiful and radiant in that pink dress. You really do! I have also just recently come into my own, so to speak, when it comes to personal style. It has taken a lot of trial and error, but it's been so worth it. Speaking as someone who also deals with mental health issues (depression, anxiety) how you dress can really effect it. Sometimes something as simple (ok not simple, but you know what I mean) as finding your style can help lend a hand towards finding that happy place. <3

P.s. Your blog format/style is to die for! (figuratively, of course). :)

  10. You look precious (and confident)! And take it from someone who's a whopping 4 YEARS older (I know, what a HUGE age difference!), you'll be surprised at how much you'll continue to change. And that's a great thing. As long as you know the basics of Cara and who you want to be, that's all that's important =]

  27. I think with the constant pressure from the fashion world may it be from blogs, magazines or TV, many of us are feeling a little lost trying to discover our own style. We are torn in between wanting to be ourself and wanting to be fashionable and trendy and in the end we end up looking just like another person. Good on you for finding your own style, stay real and stay true to yourself.
